Thick as Blood

When I was a child, I was taught to be god-fearing, obedient, and follow my family's beliefs. I emulated every quirk, saying, and ideology of my loved ones. As the years passed from elementary school to college, I realized how different I was from my family. It was isolating and lonely as if I were a wolf in sheep’s clothing. I made this series as a form of reconciliation with my family. Most of my family will never truly understand my identity and it made me realize that family is not always blood. We all have our own lives and ways of processing life but I still love them and they will always be a part of me. The series is ironic because I am not very close to my family, but we are still connected by lineage and memories. These images were shot on 600 Polaroid color film, emulsions lifted, and placed on plexiglass.
